    2. If writing in a fixed form, follow the rules of that form.
    3. Be easy to relate to.
    4. Originality.
    5. Coherence.
    6. Interesting, attention-grabbing.

  7. 1. Can't be generic - has to have original, "new" style.
    2. Ambiguity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Types_of_Ambiguity_(Empson)) and freedom for the reader in interpreting its meaning.
    3. Well-constructed characters to whom you can relate, or at least create some emotion in you.
    4. Not just about conveying information (unlike a research paper) but also about conveying a particular mood or message.
    5. It has to have a well-constructed form that is appropriate to its aims.
    6. Careful and precise word choice and style of construction.
