古くて新しいまち金沢（かなざわ）

Princeton in Ishikawa (PII)を知(し)っていますか。プリンストンの夏(なつ)の日本語のプログラムです。PIIの学生は金沢(かなざわ)で勉強(べんきょう)します。金沢はどこでしょうか。金沢を地図(ちず: map)で見(み)てください。

金沢には、古い建物(たてもの)や古い日本の文化(ぶんか: culture)がたくさんあるので、「小さい京都(きょうと: Kyoto)」というニックネームがあります。古い建物は、例えば(たとえば: for instance) 、金沢城(かなざわじょう: Kanazawa Castle)があります。その近(ちか)くには「兼六園」(Kenrokuen Garden)があります。「兼六園」はとても有名(ゆうめい)できれいな公園(こうえん)です。公園には大きい池(いけ: pond)があります。PIIの学生は兼六園の中を歩(ある)いて、公園の中の古い家でお茶(ちゃ)を飲(の)みます。

それから、武家屋敷(ぶけやしき: Samurai residence district)があります。この家(いえ)には昔(むかし: long time ago)、武士(ぶし: samurai)が住(す)んでいました。私たちは家の中に入(はい)って、部屋(へや)を見られます(can look at)。

金沢には、お寺(てら: temple)や神社(じんじゃ: shrine)もたくさんありますが、一番(いちばん)おもしろいのは、「忍者寺」(にんじゃでら: Ninja Temple)です。「忍者寺」の本当(ほんとう: real)の名前(なまえ)は「妙立寺」(みょうりゅうじ)ですが、秘密(ひみつ: secret)の部屋(へや)やおもしろいトリック(trick)がたくさんあるので、は「忍者寺」と呼(よ)ばれます(is called)。私は「NARUTO」のアニメが好きなので、よくこの「忍者寺」に遊(あそ)びに行きます。「忍者寺」の外(そと)に忍者グッズ(goods)の店(みせ: shop)があるので、私はたくさんかいものをします。

それから、金沢は海(うみ: sea)の近(ちか)くにあるので、食べ物(もの)の中で魚(さかな)が一番おいしいです。金沢の人たちは、よく近江町市場(おうみちょういちば: Ohmicho-marcket)に行(い)って、たくさん新しくておいしい魚を買(か)います。魚がおいしいので、すしもとてもおいしいです。私は金沢ですしを食べるのが大好きです。

金沢には新しいものもたくさんあります。一番おもしろいのは「21世紀美術館」(21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art)です。おもしろい絵(え)やきれいな彫刻(ちょうこく: sculpture)がたくさんあります。「スイミング・プール」は、人がプールの下に入(はい)ります。そして、上に水が見えます。変(へん: strange)ですね。
金沢はとてもおもしろいです。みなさんもいっしょに金沢に行って、日本語を勉強しませんか。

ニューヨークの日本のみせ

ニューヨークにたくさん日本の店（みせ）がありますね。日本の本屋（や）は「きのくにや」と「ブックオフ」があります。「きのくにや」と「ブックオフ」は日本でもとても有名（ゆうめい）です。「きのくにや」には日本の本がたくさんあります。日本語（ご）の本も英語（えいご）の本もあります。日本の新（あたら）しい雑誌（ざっし）もたくさんあります。わたしはよく日本の雑誌を買（か）いにきのくにやに行（い）きます。

「きのくにや」はブライアントパークの近くにあります。二階（かい: floor）にとてもきれいなカフェがあります。日本のサンドイッチやパン、おべんとうなどがあります。私はときどきそこで友達（ともだち）に会（あ）って、コーヒーを飲（の）みます。そこでいつも２時間（じかん）ぐらい話（はな）します。

「ブックオフ」は「きのくにや」の近（ちか）くにあります。ブックオフには古（ふる）い本がたくさんあります。古い本ですから、安（やす）いです。まんがもたくさんありますよ！ブックオフにはいつも人がたくさんいて、にぎやかです。私は日本でよくブックオフに行って、本をたくさん買います。ですから、スーツケースはいつも重（おも）い(heavy)です。

たこやきをしっています(know)か。（上はたこやきの写真（しゃしん）です。）たこはoctopusで、たこやきの中にちいさいたこがあります。（でも、ときどき安（やす）いたこやきの中にたこがありません.....）私はたこやきが大好（す）きですが、アメリカにあまりたこやきの店がありませんね。ざんねんです。でも、たこやきの店（みせ）がイーストビレッジのセントマークスの近くにありますよ。名前（なまえ）は「おたふく」です。とても小さい店で、店の中にはいすがありません！

それから、おいしいとんかつの店もあります。（「とん」はポーク、かつはcultet(カツ)です。）おいしいですよ！名前（なまえ）は「かつはま」で、店はミッドタウンにあります。かつはまにはトンカツとチキンカツがあります。あまり大きくありませんが、明（あか）るくてきれいな店です。下のランチセットはごはんとみそしるがあって、１６ドルです。安（やす）いですね！

日本のスーパーもあります。名前（なまえ）は「ミツワ」です。でも、ニューヨークにありません。ニュージャージにあります。とても大きいスーパーで、スーパー中に日本の本屋（や）、ラーメン屋、日本のスパゲッティーとケーキの店（名前はイタリアントマトです。おいしいですよ）などがあります。ニューヨークのペンステーションからシャトルバスがあります。ペンステーションからミツワまでバスで３０分（ぷん）ぐらいかかります。

At the end of the semester we will have not only teachers but also you and your classmates evaluate your プリテレ work. We will use the results of your discussions today as a basis for deciding the criteria that we will use to evaluate プリテレ work at the end of the semester.

1. Discuss the followings in groups of 3-4 people.

• what makes a good TV show
• what are imporant factors that will ensure working in a group will be successful for everyone involved.  

2. Post the result of your discussion in the comment column of this blog. Make sure to include your names or initials with the posting so we know that you have commented.

プリテレプロジェクト

For this project, we will be expressing ourselves via live broadcast to Japanese speakers and learners of Japanese. (This live will be also recorded and can be viewed later.) We often practice for various exercises in class but with this project we will experience producing a “real” live broadcast.

Purposes:

1) Express yourself on TV in 4-5 minutes. Think carefully about your message, along with who your viewers would be (i.e., native speakers of Japanese as well as learners of Japanese). (Please think about what you can communicate with your current level of Japanese.) 2) Convey your views not only with the Japanese language but also using images, gestures, your tone of voice, and volume of voice.

Procedures: 　　

1) Form a group with 3-4 people 2) Sign up for the date that you would like to present your live broadcast 3) Submit a proposal by November 12, Monday: Decide on the message you would like to express and how to express this. (If you have no idea what to do, try Show & Tell.) 4) Submit a script by December 7, Friday 5) Edit your script based on comments from the instructors 6) Practice your presentation with either Sato-sensee or Shibata-sensee 7) Present a live broadcast using UStream on January 7-9. 8) Exchange comments on UStream comment section 9) Conduct final evaluation.

*If you do not want your face to appear in the broadcast, think of a way in which to present without your face being shown. You could of course choose to present anonymously.
